It was love at first sight when I met Paul, and we set a date to tie the knot. My best friend Dani* was to be my maid of honour… but she was out to destroy my marriage rather than support it.

When I met Paul, it was love at first sight.
Handsome, charming and caring, we got on like a house on fire and I knew he was The One when he made a big effort to get to know my son, Dell, now 15.
Our relationship went from strength to strength and when Paul introduced me to his friend, Dani*, I was thrilled that we got on so well.
I had a new boyfriend and a new best friend – and the three of us often spent weekends together.
Dani quickly became one of the family, so when Paul proposed in June 2005, I asked her to be my maid of honour, along with my friend, Kim.
She excitedly helped me arrange the church wedding of my dreams and a year later, as Paul and I exchanged vows with Dani by my side, I thought I’d never be as happy again.
But that was all about to change.
For the next year, Paul and I lived together in wedded bliss.
We even talked about starting a family so when we began arguing, I thought it was just a rough patch we’d work through.
But when I logged onto Paul’s Facebook page to send a game request to my account, I discovered a message which made my blood run cold.
It was from Dani, thanking Paul for a ‘good time’ and asking when she was going to see him again.
Horrified, I immediately confronted Paul.
I felt the bile rise in my throat as he broke down and admitted that he’d been seeing Dani behind my back… for a year.
I was utterly heartbroken. The two people I loved and trusted most in the world had betrayed me in the worst way imaginable.
I immediately cut Dani out of my life and at first I could barely bring myself to look at Paul.
But after a long break, we agreed to give our marriage another try.
We split for good in August 2013 but despite everything, we’ve remained friends.
I’ve got a new partner now, David, but I’ll never forget what Paul and Dani did to me.
It was the ultimate betrayal. I still can’t believe my groom had an affair with my maid of honour.
Paul said: “Serena’s mum passed away and it was a case of me either stepping up or buggering off. I didn’t feel like I could just walk away. I knew I had uncertain feelings towards Serena and I took advantage of a situation when I knew I could. Dani was always very flirty around me. What can I say, I was weak and stupid and I made a huge mistake.”
