This week we’ve been privileged to work with one of the UK’s biggest women’s magazines to launch a scheme honouring brave and inspirational women. That’s Life magazine is inviting entries for its Survivor of the Year 2013 ceremony, recognising ladies who’ve lived through incredibly tough ordeals but have come back even stronger. It was no surprise to us that they chose our client Emma to launch the initiative – she’s one of the most amazingly brave people we’ve had the honour of meeting.
Mum of two Emma, 38, survived two weeks of rape and torture at the hands of the man she thought loved her – her boyfriend Jason O’Dell. But even after being rescued by the police and moved to a safe house, her ordeal was not over. She’s had operations to fix the violent injuries caused to her face, and then stood up in court to face her attacker at his trial. Just hours after O’Dell was found guilty and sentenced to life in jail, Emma had decided she needed to speak out. She wants to give other domestic abuse victims the courage to escape, and prove there is light at the end of the tunnel.
