Domestic abuse is a big issue for UK women’s magazines… and when you look at the statistics it’s easy to see why. The latest figures from support charity Women’s Aid show 45% of women have experienced an incident of violence at one point in their lives. Additionally 54% of UK rapes are committed by a woman’s current or former partner, and on average two women are killed every single week by a male partner or former partner. At Sell My Story we work with lots of survivors of domestic abuse who want to share their story to give hope to other victims. Here is a small selection of our recent stories.

EXECUTED! HANGED WHILE PREGNANT BY EVIL HUBBY

Hayley, 33, was 12-weeks pregnant with her husband Dean’s baby when he marched her to the forest and told her she was about to die. In a horrific tale of torture he stripped and hanged Hayley until she passed out. She then woke to find Dean preparing to finish the job. Incredibly, brave Hayley managed to escape and evil Dean was jailed. She has now given birth to the son that survived her execution. Her story was in That’s Life magazine, as part of their Survivor of the Year campaign.

MY 12-HR TORTURE NIGHTMARE… OVER A HOT FLUSH

Kerry, 44, found love with Andrew, 41, after a one night stand, but the relationship turned violent when Andrew revealed a jealous streak.  When menopausal Kerry had a hot flush while at a pub, Andrew took it as a sign that she was getting hot under the collar over the barman.  Enraged at the thought she was cheating, he subjected Kerry to a horrific 12-hour attack. Andrew was jailed for two years last month. Her story was in Chat magazine.

TRAPPED AND TORTURED – BY MY SOLDIER HUBBY

When Sarah, 28, welcomed her soldier hubby Mike, 26, home from his tour of Afghanistan, she couldn’t wait to settle into married life. But just 24 hours later, a traumatised Mike held his terrified wife hostage, convinced she was an enemy Taliban commander. After four hours of torture at the hands of her husband, Sarah finally escaped. Mike was treated for PTSD and the pair were reunited. Her story was in Pick Me Up magazine.
