It’s a sad truth that unfortunately not every story has a fairytale happy ending. But we’re always proud to work with clients who want to use their own terrible experiences to send an inspiring message to strangers across the nation. These courageous women are ensuring something positive comes from a tragic situation. This week two brave young women told their stories.
FORCED TO LISTEN TO MUM’S MURDER
Adele, now 19, begged her mum Danielle, 29, to leave her violent partner Kevin, 42. Eventually she decided to walk away, but Adele and her sisters stayed with Kevin while her mum looked for a new home for them all. One night Danielle visited and decided to stay over, and evil Kevin got his sick revenge for being dumped. Asleep in the next room, Adele heard her mum scream and ran into the bedroom. She found her mum covered in blood with a knife next to her. Tragically her injuries were too severe for her to be saved, and Danielle died. Kevin was jailed for life and, campaigning in her mum’s memory, Adele wants to warn other women in violent relationships to escape before it’s too late. Her story was in Chat magazine.
‘PROTECTIVE’ STEP-DAD RAPED ME TOO
When June, 20, was raped by her step-brother Richard, she turned to her mum’s new partner Gary for help and protection. He warned Richard to back off, and at first June was relieved. But in a sick twist, Gary started sexually abusing her too. Her ordeal lasted three more years until she found the courage to tell the police. Gary was given eight years in prison, and Richard was sentenced to eight years and seven months. June told her story to Take a Break.
